10 Processed Foods That My Family
Bought from Costco
Costco let you buy in bulk, plus we lived more than a twenty min. drive to the closest grocery store. So the arrival of Costco to our area was celebrated with
great abandon, and our eating habits conformed accordingly. Ten processed foods my family bought in mass at Costco in the 90s.
- Truly “let go my Eggo.”
- There was a growth spurt that I went through in High School where I ate four of these every day when I got home from school.
- For the photo I didn't actually splurge for the namebrand. But it does have real maple syrup.
- Unlike the when I ate them in the 90s, which I used Mrs. Butterworth because you guessed it,
- Gallon containers of it was sold at Costco
2. Lunchables:
- They created a new kid friendly line that had Pizza and Hamburgers.
- Except a flat disk of bread with cold tomato sauce and a sprinkle of Mozzarella Cheese does not a pizza make. It was gross.
- "You don't have to heat it to eat it" I beg to differ, not a good cold lunch.
- Even today, I couldn't bring myself to buy it for this blog.
- So a picture from the grocery store.
- Something my brother and I devoured on a daily basis.
- Something we even sometimes asked for at dinner.
- And I still love it today.
- As proof, a bowl I made at work.
- We had this...it was okay.
- Until you started eating regular mashed potatoes then it became very hard to go back.
- Sadly, I do not remember an ad campaign for these.
- Heated them up in the toaster oven and eventually the microwave.
- Liked them then, and when at my parents, enjoy them still.
- Now, I saw the toaster strudel commercials and felt a bit of guilt that I liked Poptarts more.
- And also realized those commercials showed only unfrosted Poptarts, which in truth became harder and harder to find on the shelves of supermarkets.
- Anyways, Smore Poptarts are my quasi plastic food of choice.
- Admittedly bulk buying of Poptarts made me sick of most other flavors.
- The day I had Ninja Turtle shaped ones at my Aunt LeAnne's my life changed.
- Pasta in the shape of things tastes better,
- Even as an adult I think this.
- Couldn't find Ninja Turtle ones, but Star Wars?
- An absolute win!
8. Hostess Ding Dongs:
- An occasional family purchase from Costco. Still crave one on occasion.
- Heated up? Very tasty.
- Just don't put the tinfoil wrapper in the microwave.
- A gallon sized tub sat on our breakfast counter.
- It was yellow, spreadable and we all used it.
- I thought it was real butter, it said butter on the container.
- One day mom started buying real butter, because of the flavor. I tried it. My high school pallet didn't understand. It was gross.
- But now, real butter wins for me hands down.
- Something my parents would get super excited about.
- Something other adults would come over and ooh and ahh over.
- Something I ate because it was available but my young palette didn't understand what the fuss was about
- I mean...there was no chocolate involved with any of them.
Yep 10 Coscto processed foods that helped my non-cooking parents feed my brother, me, and a host of neighbors and friends.
