FLYING OUT OF LAX (A Word Problem)

FLIGHT MATH IN LA
How to figure out when to leave for the airport when in LA.

Inspired by wonderful: Mathematical Word Problems for Introverts by Eric K Auld linked here...
I created a guide for the upcoming summer travel season

Traveling LAX, FLIGHT, AIRPORT

  • If the flight is tomorrow at 5:11, and it's at LAX then subtract at least an hour and half, for TSA
    • Subtract another 30 minutes for the mile trekked to your gate
    • Minus 20 minutes for the line at the bathroom (if your a woman) ten minutes if your a man
  • If you take the flyaway, then subtract another hour and half to get there
  • But know schools start to let out during that period of time or people are breaking for lunch depending on which type of math you used,
    • so subtract another half hour.
  • If you take an Uber to the flyaway...subtract 20 minutes
    • but if you use it carpool style to save on money, then you will watch the car go the opposite direction from where you want to go,
      • so subtract another 40 minutes.
  • If instead you have your roommate drive you to the fly away take only 20 minutes off.
    • Also buy your roommate In and Out subtract an hour for this if it's not between 10:30-10:50 am
  • If you have a partial stranger drive you to the airport directly, minus only an hour and forty five minutes,
    • Then kiss that person full on the mouth and buy them dinner,
      • Not In and Out
      • So subtract another hour and a half for this activity
        • They have shown a great love for you
          • Also remember, the fly away does exist...so you might be taking their love for granted,
  • If you are taking the bus, subtract another hour just to figure out which buses to catch.
    • Subtract ten minutes figuring out where the bus stop is
    • Subtract an extra 20 minutes to figure out you have to wave the bus down to get it to stop for you.
    • Subtract fifteen minutes for when the bus runs late
    • Subtract an hour to cover potentially getting on the wrong bus
  • On top of that with any mode of transportation if it's Monday-Sat subtract another hour for traffic accidents, distracted tourists, and emergency vehicles passing through.
  • Add an extra twenty three minute buffer, incase you can't find your id, keys, phone or glasses before leaving.
The Solution:
Pencils down let's see how you did...

  • If it's Sunday leave 3 hours before the flight you'll most likely be fine.
  • If it's M-Th you should leave within ten minutes of reading this...
  • If it's Friday-Saturday, you'll never make it.
