How To Make Your Sweatshirt be "Off the Shoulder"
- I have a sweatshirt my dad gave me.
- It commemorates, Fly Girls, women who flew planes for the military during World War 2.
- These test pilots flew in all types of weather and sometimes logged in more flight hours then their male counterparts.
- They flew B-29 bombers and other "difficult" air craft.
- They were also considered civilians, not given military status, til the 1970s.
- For more details check out this NPR article.
- It's a story of women rising above expectations and proving "they could fly."
- And my dad, gave me a sweatshirt honoring these wonderful women
- But the sweatshirt didn't fit me right.
- And it remained in the bottom of my drawer.
- So, with nothing to lose,
- either letting it be a sweatshirt that I never wore,
- or giving it away.
- I chose to take scissors to it.
- And it turned out to be
- super easy
- incredibly quick
- and ended with a sweatshirt I love and wear often.
- So, I'm sharing it here
- Note: I made the back the front, and the front the back.
- So cut a V on the front you want.
- And cut a scoop on the back you want.

Cut the back of the sweatshirt off in a V shape removing the tag. |
Remove Scrap. Adjust if needed. |
Remove the collar on the front of the sweatshirt. |
- Then I put it on
- and added a belt
- It now comes off my shoulders
- And now, I'm proud to wear it for multiple reasons
