10 Beverages I Drank in the 90s

10 Beverages I Drank in the 90s

Dr. Pepper Seven Up Comic

1. Caprisun:
  • Once, we went on a family vacation with a suitcase full of Caprisuns.
  • A huge hardtop mustard yellow suitcase
  • If that visual wasn't enough, my dad also did the unheard of thing of pouring it into a glass, so we could all see what it looked like.
    • It was clear, and not brightly colored like I thought it would be.
    • Caprisuns: no artificial colors before it was cool.

2. Tang:
  • A drink for astronauts.
  • And with it's Coscto sized containers advertising 100% of your daily vitamin C.
    • It became quick staple at our house.
  •  I also chased my friend, Traci, around the house with a plastic cup full to get her to try\love it.
    • Mission accomplished.

3. Dr. Pepper:
  • I'm a Pepper, he's a Pepper, mom's a Pepper, wouldn't you like to be a Pepper too?
  • My mom and I share a love for this drink, that makes splitting pop at the movie theater a breeze.
  • Obviously, I was not drinking a diet cherry version then,
    • but I occasionally imbibe in this doctored up version, and I just couldn't say no to it at the store...
      • I mean look at those eyes

4. Mt. Dew – the brew of true gamers.
  • And that was who I hung out with.
  • We were scandalized when Red Mt. Dew and other flavors of the brand hit the stores.
  • People would quest to my town for elusive three liter bottles of the stuff.
    • A documentary came out on teens and Mt. Dew Consumption.
  • To sweet for me now, I did drink it.
    • A newer bottle, a newer controller, but the sentiment is the same

5. 7-Up: it was an up thing.
  • Still think about this one commercial sometimes.
    • A couple kids throw a party after the parents leave the house.
    • But the parents forget the tickets and come back.
    • The kids successfully hide the party goers, and lastly in desperation throw a pizza up on the ceiling.
    • The parents grab the tickets and all seems safe,
    • Except mom leans back in the door and says "And be sure to scrape the cheese off the ceiling when your done," shuts door. Pizza falls in front of her shocked off spring.
      • Brilliant. But I can't find it on the web.

6. Kool Aid:

  • The add campaign was so strange it was hard not remember the brand.
    • And for reasons I can't explain the ads also made want to drink it.
  •  My family didn't buy it.
  • But my friend Traci's mom did, much to my happiness.

7. Surge and Jolt (The precursor to RedBull and 24 Hour Energy)
  • I remember a friend telling me about Jolt.
    • In hushed whispers and how it had made her twitch
    • I never drank any, but soon after...
  • Surge came out with it's teenagers screaming add campaign and a super low introductory sale price.
  • I was in sixth grade and my male classmates were showing up to school with six packs of it.
    •  6th grade boys + 6 packs of Surge = disaster.
    • I was okay when it disappeared off the scene.
    • But on Ebay it seems to still be worth something to somebody...

8. Strawberry Kiwi Snapple:

  • My first sip it tasted like medicine
  • But by the time I finished my first bottle I was hooked
  • I wrote the Snapple Lady, she wrote back and gave me a coupon.
  • Snapple is still sold. But I couldn't find a bottle at my local grocery store.
  • So instead, here is a photo of Dr. Pepper and 7-Up when I walked back into the room

I think I interrupted something. It's okay though they're married.

9. Hansen's:
  • All natural soda, with no artificial colors.
    • The real reason my parents bought it?
    • You guessed, it was sold at Costco.
  •  It had a kiwi strawberry flavor.
  • Which wasn't Snapple but was a close second.
  • I was looking for it in the soda aisle, but had no desire to drive to another store, so I snuck a photo of this:

10. Orbitz:
  • Available at the local pizza place.
  • Was interesting with it's tiny balls of gelatin floating around in it.
  • But I think I only bought it once.
    • I must have not been alone in this decision because it quickly left the market.
  • But since then it has also been selling well on Ebay
    • Lesson learned
      • next time I do not enjoy the flavor of a new soda immediately
        • buy a flat of them,
        • hide it in the attic,
        • And one day it will pay for a an entire third of my future child's textbook.
