Man of Steel
(Saving Things is Messy, and Unclear, and well...Inconsistent)
- Superman's Man Of Steel carries a theme:
- What is worth saving?
- And the answer is a mess.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++Warning Spoilers++++++++++++++++++++
Points:
- Movie: Save a child if said child is born naturally of parents. And save no one else.
- Me: Well movie you must have a reason...
- Movie: "Because we don't want to “choose certain blood lines”"
- Me: Ohhh that makes...wait what?
- Movie: don't save children if they are drowning in a bus...
- Me: Okay, try clearing this one up...
- Movie: Because the boy who was drowning the most, and was saved naturally by superman may recover to remember (that while he was drowning under water) that Young Superman saved the entire bus.
- And this leads to the government knowing you are an alien and then they will take you away.
- Me: It can't be explained by an adrenaline surge that sometimes people have in emergency situations? That has lead to similar type rescues?
- Movie: Not even worth mentioning...proof of an alien from a confused drowning kid will tip off the government.
- Me: I don't--
- Movie: Stop with your reason.
- Movie: Do not save babies if they grow in a pod.
- Me: I don't know if it's just me, but the Matrix taught me "people in pods, are people too".
- Movie: But they are not natural and lead to exploitation of resources and death.
- Me: Even though clearly Superman's parents had to have been born that way and some how came out semi decent? Plus, we can't implement a recycling program into that man written DNA?
- Movie: Those pod babies need to be destroyed!
- Movie: Dogs should always be saved.
- Me: Okay
- Movie: Even if it means the death of a parent in front of his wife and child
- Me: The dog runs away after being saved.
- Movie: Pa Kent is a small price to pay for the life of that dog.
- Me: Ma Kent is with a completely different dog in all the current day shots...
- Movie: See my next point.
- Movie: Full grown men, who have children, can die (to protect secrets)
- Me: Um...your son can move super fast, so no one can see him...and it's a tornado, I don't think it will reveal anything for you to be saved.
- Movie: Do kill most of what's left of a race, to save another race
- Me: That's quite a sacrifice.
- Movie: But don't kill a race to revive a dying one.
- Me: There is no possible solution that encompasses both races living?
- Movie: Do kill a man who gets confused about his purpose.
- First it was to restart his race on another planet w\ "specific blood lines".
- Then it was to kill the scientist.
- Then it was to kill the son of the scientist he killed
- Then it was restart the race again
- Then it was to kill the son of the scientist and restart the race
- Then it was kill every human to exact his revenge upon the son he wanted to kill earlier but now sort of doesn't care about.
- Movie: Give superman a beard...then take it away.
- Me: I liked his beard, and I was very sad to see it go.
- I know, I know superman can't have a beard so I understand this one.
- But let's take a moment for that beard.
- Movie: save Amy Adams,
- This one I liked.
- I truly do love Amy so I was glad when she got screen time.
- Movie: dialogue that was saved instead of cut:
- “I have so many questions” (then launches into said questions)
- "I'm going to stop you”
- And a diatribe that sounded something like this:“I'm going to kill your son, no matter what, I'm going to kill your son. You better believe I'm going to find him and kill him, if I do nothing else. I'm going to find and kill your son”
- Many choices were made in this movie that confused me...
- But Here Are
- Happy Things:
- A red cape
- Action
- Flying over scenic things
- Amy Adams being awesome
- And a great truck stop moment!
